A sleeping
land

Located between Havířov, Karviná and Orlová. A unique place where the unstoppable power of nature is gradually erasing the traces left by centuries of coal mining. A landscape that has been pushed to the very limit, but is now regaining its natural balance. A place that has been exploited to extremes, now waiting for people who will breathe new life into it. A sleeping land of a thousand possibilities. This is the post-mining landscape. A land that for centuries has been shaped by coal mining, and today a place offering huge potential to serve local people and communities – a land ripe for transformation.

Our
results

Working alongside renowned experts, we have produced 19 multi-disciplinary studies analyzing all facets of the area’s transformation.

We have defined 5 priority areas, hat are essential for the successful transformation of the post-mining landscape to become a living environment that serves people and local communities.

These priority areas form the foundation for a comprehensive set of proposals to revitalize the area, depicted in 10 proposal diagrams.

We held 5 workshops to present the complete concept to 39 key stakeholders and partners. As a result, we have all agreed on a shared vision that has been formalized in a Memorandum of Cooperation.

Our activities so far have highlighted three key aspects that we intend to emphasize, respect and develop:

The unique
nature of the landscape

The impacts
of mining activity

New ways
of cooperation
